These awards aren't easy to get. First of all, in order for me to really get a good idea of the differences between potential award winners, I'd actually have to compare them. I'm too set in my ways to try something new after I find something I like, so sure... there are probably some more deserving winners... but I don't know about them because I don't care! But feel free to tell me how bad my choices are... I'll print them out to use as TP. Best Bar-B-Que: BB's Lawnside. Lindsay Shannon has the best ribs and burnt ends, and that is what I like in BBQ. Add some great live blues music and it's a combo that just can't be beat. Best Coffee: Dunkin Donuts Original Blend. Being a native New Englander, I grew up on Dunkins. Dunkies is on every corner of EVERY street in Brockton, MA. The first few years out here in the midwest were tough, since DD wasn't yet sold in grocery stores, and the nearest DD store was 18 miles away in Lawrence. But now, you can get Dunkins at your local grocery store or Walmart. Best Local Beer: Boulevard Zon. I hate that it's seasonal (summer), or that they went with that Lunar crap as their year round brew. Zon is what got me started on Belgian White Ales. Best Mass Market Beer: Blue Moon. I love me some Belgian White Ale. Best Place to Discover Beers: The Flying Saucer. Join the UFO club at this Power and Light District bar (the only one I go into), and you can't help but try different beers. Beers from far off exotic lands like Japan, Germany, Italy, Oregon... they have sooo many beers and a constantly changing menu. And you can get your name on the wall for drinking 100 different brews (LOOK MA, I'm a proven alcoholic!). Great brats and sauerkraut too! Best Interstate Highway: I435 in Kansas between I35 and KCK. With few exceptions, almost every mile of this stretch of highway has been repaved in the past few years. Very smooth ride and a lot less traffic than on the Missouri side. Best Local Blog: Midtown Miscreant. Blogging at it's best. Whether talking about his criminal past, his dogs, his neighbors, or just blowing off steam about some news story that he wants to call bullshit on... this is numero uno. Mark tells a story with a voice that can be felt as well as heard, as you scan the words. Best National Blog: The Agitator. Radley Balko on issues important to libertarians. Best Whiskey: Phillips Union Vanilla. I've said it before, I'll probably say it again. Whiskey. Vanilla. DUH! Best Free Texas Hold 'em Poker League: Double Deuce Poker. I play most Mondays or Saturdays at the Red Balloon or PJ's. It's free, and you can win entry into tournaments for $3000. They have games all over the KC metro. Best Online Texas Hold 'em Tournaments (free to low cost): Spade Club Poker. You can join and play some games for free, or you can pay $20 a month and have access to daily small money tournaments and win access to $5,000 weekly and $40,000 monthly tournaments. Have a Safe and Happy New Years Eve. Tomorrow begins my birthday month... so I'm going to try to make it a "Post a Day" Month. I've got a better chance of doing that than any other resolution I might make. In other words, about five days in, I'll fuck it up. |

I love blue moon too!
If you like Blue Moon, you'd probably like Zon too. Zon is the beer that made me look for year round sources of Belgian White beers. Anther great Belgain White is Hoegaarden. http://www.hoegaarden.org.uk/whatisit.asp
I was JUST going to write that. Hoegaarden is yummy and they have it on tap at Hoopers.
I certainly agree about Midtown Miscreant.
