Ducking and weaving. Flying under the radar. Stealth mode. I'm not sure how it happened, but to celebrate my blogiversary the company I work for laid off 130 employees from our IT department. Four of the 130 were people here in the KC Data Center. I wasn't one of them. But, overall, 130 out of 3,000 IT employees isn't a large percentage. Supposedly our Portsmouth New Hampshire and our Redmond Washington data centers took the biggest hits. Portsmouth is a single mainframe system facility. Redmond is a single mainframe system facility. Kansas City runs three separate mainframes with each one running a unique operating system, not to mention all the mid-range systems we have. Gotta love this economy. For now, I'm still working. But my boss has a meeting at 7:30am tomorrow, and he's requested those of us on second shift come in a half hour early tomorrow. Can you feel the tension? |
